All about my Bangkok trip!!!
Thursday, August 3rd, 2006Okay, going to blog about my Bangkok trip in the middle of the night and will be uploading a shit-load of pictures! Hope my lousy PC doesn’t crash on me. Here goes…
26.07.2006 was the day I boarded my flight at the new Budget Terminal and boy did they made sure everything was within budget. Anyway, here is how it looks like and some pictures of us in it.
*************************************************************************************************
We then grabbed some food at Hanz inside the terminal. I expected it to be crappy based on previous experience with the restaurant but to my surprise, the food was actually quite good. Except for my crappy tuna sandwich. Bleah!

Pictures taken inside the plane on the way to Bangkok.

Finally we arrived at our hotel call ‘Samran Place’. It looked pretty dodgy from the outside but the rooms are actually quite decent. At least it was clean and they have ‘Star Movies’ channel (it is actually way better than boring HBO). Besides, it only costs SGD$30 +++ a night. Quite a steal if you asked me, you can save those extra moolah for more shopping!
*************************************************************************************************
Now for the food part! Yeah!!! Now we all know that Bangkok serves cheap and good shark’s fin soup everywhere but we found that right inside MBK Centre’s food court, they serve delicious shark fin’s soup for only 150 batt! That is only around SGD$6.30! Super, duper, mega cheap and the serving is quite big too. We’ve tried shark’s fin soup at other various places, they all charged around 300 - 350 batt.

Next stop, we went to this cheap seafood restaurant located at Chinatown. Its call ‘T&K Seafood Restaurant. A place where the locals go to but is fairly comfortable as it is air-conditioned. The food is real cheap and delicious, highly recommended.
*************************************************************************************************
We also tried this restaurant inside Siam Paragon. I can’t recall what is the name of the restaurant but it is really, really posh with Swensen’s kinda charges. Considered damn cheap. All the restaurants in Siam Paragon look posh and intimidating but if you look at the prices on the menu, they are actually quite affordable. Like normal Swensen and Cafe Cartel rates found in Singapore.
*************************************************************************************************
I recommend everyone to try this major Japanese restaurant chain in Bangkok call ‘Fuji Japanese Restaurant’. There is practically one situated in every major shopping centre and the prices are unbelievably low for Japanese cuisine. They have a wide variety of different dishes and is very tasty too.
*************************************************************************************************
You just can’t help being a total pig in Bangkok as everything is so delicious and ridiculously cheap. Its like you are ill treating yourself if you don’t eat so after dinner, we sat down at Baskin Robbins for some kick-ass ice-creams. It was worth every scoop.
*************************************************************************************************
As some of you might know that Suan Lom night market is a great place for shopping but they also have these roadside stalls that sell great food. There is one particular store that serves superb fried rice with a crispy omelet on top. Of course, the price is once again dirt cheap.
*************************************************************************************************
Next is a well known seafood restaurant call ‘Somboon Seafood Restaurant’. It is famous among tourist as the food is good but kinda expensive if you compare it to other places. My first experience at the restaurant a few months back was pleasant as the food was good and service was decent but… This time round, the service sucked and the food was only so-so. Maybe it was due to the fact that we arrived way after dinner time and so the staff were kinda sloppy. They kept serving us dishes we didn’t order and insisted that it was what we ordered! We concluded that it must have been wrong orders they made throughout the day and hope that they can just put it on our tab as we were basically the last customers. We ordered stir-fried broccoli with oyster sauce and they served us kailan so we told them it wasn’t what we ordered and the waiter had the nerve to tell us that it is Chinese broccoli! Come on, we are Chinese and we are telling you that it is NOT Chinese broccoli. How stupid can one be? Gosh.
*************************************************************************************************
Now for my favorite snack, Dunkin’ Donuts! Yippy. Too bad we don’t have it anymore in Singapore. I just simply love them more than the average donuts, I don’t know why. The probably pumped opium into the donuts and it got me addicted…
*************************************************************************************************
Okay, food section has ended. Now I’m just gonna post some pictures of us photo-whoring. Here’s one of me and Jolin photo-whoring at some phone booths. You don’t see these in Singapore anymore…
*************************************************************************************************
One tip, do not believe everything a guidebook tells you. I borrowed a Bangkok guidebook from the library before going on the trip and in it, they recommended a tailor call ‘Ah Song’. We actually went all the way down to the place but found it to be a disappointment. The fabrics were limited and outdated plus the place looked damn dodgy. Anyway, we escaped as fast as we could and found another tailor at the Ambassador Hotel. Its call ‘Ambassador Tailor’. Their prices are very good, only SGD$18 for a piece of men’s work shirt. The workmanship is satisfactory and they have a wide variety of fabrics to choose from.
*************************************************************************************************
We came across this interesting nail parlor which does machine-printed nail designs. It is supposed to be an express service (only 20 minutes) compared to traditional manicure/pedicure nail parlors. Of course the job isn’t as well done as hand-painted artworks but it is very cheap. Only around SGD$7 for all 10 fingers with different designs on them.
*************************************************************************************************
Next on my recommendation list is the Healthland Spa. They offer a wide variety of services and the prices are very, very cheap. Only SGD$10 for 2 hours worth of Thai massage. Yup, its true ladies and gentlemen. Not only that, the place is huge and posh with excellent service, delicious tea and soothing music playing in the background.
*************************************************************************************************
We discovered this shopping arcade situated inside Baiyoke Sky Hotel. They have t-shirts with kewl prints that are selling at dirty-dirt-cheap prices! SGD$4.20 a piece! Plus they have nice bags, jackets and accessories too. Worth a visit if you ever go to Bangkok.
*************************************************************************************************
Just some random pictures of us and our purchases. I love my new dresses!
*************************************************************************************************
Pictures of us clubbing at RCA. Didn’t take much photos as I wasn’t in the mood (had a tiff with my boyfriend before we head down). Its all his fault that I don’t have more pictures of our clubbing scene (baby if you are reading this, you know how to make it up to me right?) He, he… Anyway, the place is awesome as the clubs are way bigger than those in Singapore and the drinks prices are like getting a soda at 7-Eleven. Foreigners are strictly required to bring their passports along. Identification cards not accepted.
*************************************************************************************************
Misc pictures took in taxis. We spent a great deal of time in them…
*************************************************************************************************
There is a fish lover among us and that is Desmond so we all made our way down to Chatuchak market on a weekday to check out the fishes with him. Basically Chatuchak is a gigantic market that only operate on weekends. They sell everything from apparels, furniture, pets, food, accessories, weapons etc… However the pets section do operate on weekdays as well. Oh by the way, it is legal to bring fishes back to Singapore. Not sure about other pets though.
*************************************************************************************************
Finally we came to the last day of our trip and proceeded to Bangkok airport. We did the usual scanning and checking in of luggage before heading down to KFC for a our last meal in Bangkok. Sad…

Here are just some leftover misc photos that doesn’t belong to any group. Just posting them for fun. That’s the end of my Bangkok trip. Will blog again soon. Ciao people.
P.S. Pardon the spelling and grammatical errors. Its late and I am tired. Night.
